Understanding the pair
In EUR/GBP the Euro is the base currency and the British Pound is the quote currency. The rate tells you how many GBP one EUR buys, so a rising EUR/GBP means the Euro is strengthening against the British Pound.
EUR/GBP is a minor (cross) pair: it combines two major currencies without the US dollar, so its rate is effectively the product of two dollar pairs and spreads are typically a little wider than the majors. In practice its price moves with EUR/USD and USD/GBP (or their inverses).
Prices are quoted to 5 decimal places here. One pip is 0.0001, so on a standard lot of 100,000 EUR a one-pip move is worth 10 GBP — use the pip calculator to convert that into your account currency.
Both currencies are most actively traded during the London (08:00–17:00 London time) session. See live session times on the market hours clock.
The second most traded currency, shared by the euro-area member states. The ECB sets a single monetary policy for the bloc and also publishes the daily euro reference rates used on this site.

Sterling is among the most traded currencies, and London is the largest foreign-exchange trading centre. Bank of England rate decisions and UK inflation data are key event risks.

EUR/GBP shows how many British Pound (GBP) one Euro (EUR) buys. EUR is the base currency and GBP is the quote currency. If the rate rises, the Euro has strengthened against the British Pound.
No. It is derived from the euro foreign exchange reference rates published by the European Central Bank once per working day around 16:00 CET. It is useful for reference, budgeting and calculator inputs, but it is not an executable trading quote — a broker's bid and ask will differ.
By convention one pip in EUR/GBP is 0.0001 because the pair is quoted in GBP. On a standard lot of 100,000 EUR, a one-pip move is worth 10 GBP. Brokers may quote an extra decimal (a pipette).
Both currencies have their home market in the London (08:00–17:00 London time) session, so liquidity is typically deepest then. The pair still trades around the clock from Sunday evening to Friday evening (New York time).
