Which tool should I use?
The calculators answer different questions at different moments in a trade. A simple routine is to plan the risk first and the reward second — never the other way round.
- Before you place a trade
- Decide where your stop-loss belongs on the chart first, then let the lot size calculator (stop in pips) or the position size calculator (entry and stop prices, gold and silver included) tell you how big the position can be for the percentage you are prepared to lose. Check the plan with the risk/reward calculator to see the win rate it needs to break even.
- When you want to understand a pair
- The pip calculator shows what a one-pip move is worth in your own currency — the number that links chart distances to money. Yen pairs, crosses and metals all behave differently, so it is worth checking whenever you trade something new.
- Checking your account can carry it
- The margin calculator gives the deposit a broker locks up for a single position. If you hold several trades, the leverage calculator adds them up to show your effective leverage — a better gauge of overall risk than the maximum leverage your broker offers.
- After the trade, and over time
- Use the profit & loss calculator to see the net result after spread, commission and swap, then record it in the trading journal. The compounding calculator illustrates how returns and deposits could interact over many periods — a hypothetical model, never a promise.
